According to him, more than 2,000 members of the ADC from the ward attended the gathering, during which the issues involving Kingibe were discussed extensively.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Wuse Ward chapter has announced the indefinite suspension of the senator representing the FCT Ireti Kingibe over alleged violations of party rules.
The decision was disclosed by the Wuse Ward Chairman, , during a meeting with party executives and members held in . According to party officials, the action followed deliberations by ward members who reviewed several complaints concerning the senator’s conduct within the party structure.
Chukwu explained that the disciplinary move was the outcome of a large ward meeting convened on March 10, 2026, where members examined allegations raised against the lawmaker. He noted that the meeting attracted significant participation from the grassroots level of the party.
According to him, more than 2,000 members of the ADC from the ward attended the gathering, during which the issues involving Kingibe were discussed extensively.
The complaints presented during the meeting reportedly included claims that the senator took possession of the ward’s official membership register without authorization. Party members also accused her of attempting to initiate a parallel membership registration process separate from the ward’s officially approved system.
In addition, Kingibe was accused of repeatedly failing to attend ward meetings and activities, which some members described as a neglect of her responsibilities to the party at the grassroots level.
Chukwu further stated that the senator was also accused of failing to pay mandatory party dues and allegedly displaying disrespect toward the ward’s leadership and executives.
After reviewing the complaints, the ward chairman said members agreed that disciplinary measures were necessary to protect the integrity and unity of the party within the area.
“After due consideration of the above grave offences, a motion was moved by the general house for the immediate suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, and it was ratified by a two-thirds majority of the executives present,” Chukwu stated during the meeting.
He added that the decision was formally documented and has already been transmitted to , the party chairman of the , for further administrative review.
Confirming receipt of the communication, Sule explained that the party would follow established procedures before taking any final decision on the matter.
“As the party chairman at the local government level, I must wait for the official submission. Once received, it will be forwarded to the state chairman for further action,” Sule said.
The development has drawn attention within the party, particularly because Kingibe currently occupies one of the most prominent political positions in the territory as the elected senator representing the FCT in the National Assembly.Politics
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the ADC in the Federal Capital Territory, , also addressed party members during the gathering. He explained that the issue surfaced during a meeting originally convened to discuss membership registration and other organisational matters affecting the party in the capital.
Ehijiator confirmed that the FCT leadership of the party has received the report from the ward executives and would carefully review the allegations in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.
“As the constitutional chairman of the party in the FCT, I have received the report. We will examine the allegations and take appropriate steps in line with the party’s constitution before forwarding it to the national leadership,” he stated.
He assured members that due process would be followed and that the leadership would ensure fairness in handling the matter.
During the same meeting, party members also passed a vote of confidence in Ehijiator, commending his leadership and efforts in strengthening the ADC’s presence within the Federal Capital Territory.
Supporters who spoke at the gathering praised the FCT chairman for what they described as his commitment to party discipline and organisational growth, urging members to remain united despite internal disagreements.
Political observers say the suspension of Kingibe by the Wuse Ward chapter represents an early stage of the party’s disciplinary process.
Under the ADC’s internal procedures, ward executives can recommend sanctions against members, including suspension. However, such decisions typically require further review and ratification by higher party structures, including the local government, state, and national leadership levels.
This multi-layered process is designed to ensure that disciplinary measures are consistent with the party’s constitution and that affected members are given the opportunity to respond to allegations made against them.
The situation could carry broader political implications in the Federal Capital Territory, where Kingibe remains a key political figure.Politics
Elected in the 2023 general elections, the senator represents the FCT in the National Assembly and has been an influential voice in federal legislative affairs concerning the capital.
Political analysts note that any prolonged dispute between the senator and her party at the grassroots level could affect party cohesion in the territory ahead of future political contests.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Kingibe had not publicly responded to the allegations or the decision by the Wuse Ward chapter to suspend her indefinitely.
Party officials, however, maintain that the matter will be handled strictly within the framework of the ADC’s constitution as the leadership continues to review the situation.
