Alabo George Sara-Igbe, a veteran stakeholder and outspoken critic from the Niger Delta, has publicly challenged the political viability of the former Minister of Transportation regarding his potential run for the highest office. Speaking with a sense of urgency, the elder statesman highlighted a perceived disconnect between the politician and his home base. He argued that the current instability in Rivers State reflects a leader who has lost his administrative grip.
According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of SYMFONI, while analyzing the lack of local protection for the politician during recent crises, Sara-Igbe stated, “I don’t think Amaechi should think of the presidency, because he would not get the support of the Niger Delta.” He noted that despite holding three major powerful positions over two decades, the former governor failed to cultivate a loyal grassroots following within his village.
The activist emphasized that true political authority is built on the empowerment of one’s own people rather than acting alone. He criticized the former minister for behaving like a lone ranger who failed to consult regional elders or provide jobs for his kinsmen. Sara-Igbe pointed out the irony of the minister’s tenure, specifically mentioning that no significant rail infrastructure was extended to the Niger Delta during his eight years in office.
Furthermore, the elder claimed that lucrative opportunities and federal appointments were often handed to personal friends instead of qualified indigenes of the oil rich region. He expressed doubt that a politician who failed to develop his own community could successfully manage the needs of the entire federation. This internal neglect, he argued, has left the politician vulnerable, as his own people no longer feel motivated to offer him their support.
In his final assessment, Sara-Igbe called on the politician to engage in deep self reflection regarding his legacy before pursuing any further ambitions. He maintained that the people of the South South are now prioritizing leaders who show genuine commitment to regional growth. The elder concluded that the Niger Delta would serve as a major obstacle to his presidential path due to years of perceived selfishness and neglect of his people.
