Gunmen kidnapp Woman, Shoot Husband Near  Govt House

Residents of Pelebe area in Ogunti Camp, Akure, Ondo State, were thrown into panic late at night following a kidnapping incident in which a woman was abducted and her husband shot by suspected gunmen.

The attack occurred at Pelebe, along Oda Road — approximately 12.6 kilometres from the Ondo State Government House in Alagbaka, a distance that typically takes about 22 minutes by road.

The proximity of the incident to the seat of power has further heightened concerns among residents over security in the state capital.

According to local sources, the attackers stormed the quiet settlement under the cover of darkness, firing gunshots that sent residents fleeing for safety.

The couple was reportedly outside their residence when the assailants struck.

Eyewitnesses said the husband was shot during the attack and left wounded, while his wife was forcibly taken away to an unknown destination by the gunmen.

Neighbours who heard the gunfire rushed to the scene after the attackers had fled.

The injured man was subsequently taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment, while concerned residents alerted security agencies.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted woman and track down the perpetrators.

The incident has heightened fears among residents, who are now calling for increased security presence in the area.
