The governor of Adamawa state, Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri has stated that northern Nigerian politicians ought to respect the unwritten power rotation agreement between the South and the North.
The governor made the statement while appearing on Channels Tv, arguing that any northern politician who violates the unwritten power rotation agreement between the north and the south in 2027, does not consider the unity and oneness of the country. He stated that all northern presidential aspirants ought to shelve their ambition and allow the south complete their tenure for balance and unity of the country.
Nobody in the North has business to contest for the presidency at the moment. It is the South’s turn; they should complete their eight years if we are really serious about this country and about its leadership. The rotation agreement has to be respected for the unity and oneness of the country”, he stated
Speaking on his defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the expense of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), governor Fintiri noted that he acted in the interest of the people of Adamawa state by choosing to align with the government at the centre. He claimed that the PDP currently lacks prospect with no vibrancy and political potential to reclaim power at the centre. He insinuated that staying in the PDP amounted to a political risk to his career.
According to him, remaining in the PDP implied remaining a local champion as there is no possibility of the party winning the 2027 presidential election. He pointed out that the PDP currently does not have any notable politician who has declared to run for president on the party’s platform in 2027. Hence, there is no hope of the party winning the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on his contribution to the party, governor Fintiri boasted that prior to his defection to the APC, he was central to the major development in the party including efforts to reconcile the members of the party enmeshed in crisis.
