11 Years After, NAPTIP Secures 14-Year Jail Term for ‘Baby Factory’ Couple, Assets Seized

After more than a decade in court, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Tr+fficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has secured the conviction of a prominent couple who ran a baby factory in Ilu-Titun, Okitipupa LGA of Ondo State.

Prince Ogundeji Abiodun and Mrs Ayodele Ogundeji were sentenced on February 26, 2026, to 14 years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine by the Federal High Court sitting in Akure.

Trial judge F.A. Olubanjo found them guilty on a 10-count charge, including detaining victims against their will and deprivation of personal liberty, contrary to Section 19(c) of the TIPPLEA 2003.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of eight cars, two bungalows and ₦4 million recovered during investigations, all to the Federal Government through NAPTIP. Three victims who testified in the case are to receive ₦1 million each as restitution.

Speaking in Lagos, NAPTIP’s Lagos Zonal Commander, Mrs Comfort Agboko, described the judgment as historic. She explained that the case was referred to the agency by the Nigerian Immigration Service in January 2014.

According to her, investigations revealed the couple operated a baby factory at their residence in Ilutitun, where underage pregnant girls were detained and held until delivery, with the babies allegedly sold to buyers.

A 2014 court order had sealed and seized properties found on the premises, including vehicles, buildings and cash.

Agboko said, “After over 11 years of trial, justice has finally been secured for the victims. This is a landmark conviction that will surely serve as a deterrent.”

She described it as a “double-barrelled judgement” that not only punished the offenders but also stripped them of their proceeds of crime while offering restitution to victims.
