Shi’ites Stage Protest in Yobe Over Reported Killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader
Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, widely known as Shi’ites, on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest in Potiskum and Nguru Local Government Areas of Yobe State over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The protesters marched through major streets carrying Iranian flags and large portraits of Khamenei. They chanted slogans in solidarity with Iran and condemned what they described as foreign interference that led to the death of the Iranian leader.
In Potiskum, the leader of the group, Abdullahi Hassan, said the protest was organised to reject what he called the unjust killing of a respected Islamic figure.
He said the development was an attack on the dignity of Muslims around the world and should not be accepted by peace-loving people.
Members in Nguru also shared similar views, describing the killing as a violation of international norms. They called on the global community to speak against the act and stand for justice.
The protest in Yobe follows similar demonstrations in parts of Nigeria after Iranian state media confirmed the death of Khamenei during a large-scale US and Israeli military operation that reportedly began around February 28, 2026.
The strikes have since led to rising tension in the Middle East, with reports of casualties and retaliatory attacks. Iran has announced 40 days of national mourning for the late leader, who ruled the country for nearly four decades.
