Atiku’s Son, Shehu Exposes the Secret Reason Governor Fintiri Defected to APC

Shehu Abubakar, son of former Nigerian vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s defection to the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) at the expense of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Shehu Abubakar through his X account, seemingly advised Nigerian state-governors to be honest with their political supporters and those who stood for them.

He insinuated that governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s defection to the APC is not born out of good intention for the Adamawa state people but due to the governor’s ploy to evade being probed by the Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies at the end of his governorship administration.

According to Shehu Abubakar, the governors who are defecting to the ruling party, think that the ruling party is poised to winning the 2027 presidential election, hence the need for them to align with the ruling party in order to evade being probed for misappropriation of funds during their governorship administration.

Govs should be honest enough to their people who stood by them. They moved to APC for protection from prosecution of corruption cases. They believe if APC wins & they are on the losing side, they will be locked up, so they dont want to risk it. Its purely for self preservation”, he stated.

Shehu Abubakar’s remark comes in the face of a statement by the special adviser to president Tinubu on information and strategy, Bayo Onanugu in which he taunted Atiku Abubakar over Fintiri’s defection. Atiku Abubakar is mocked by the presidential adviser who described Fintiri’s defection to the APC as a major political blow to Atiku Abubakar whom he told should as a result, consider retiring from active politics, citing that governor Fintiri’s defection to the APC implies that the former vice president has lost his home base– a development that signifies president Tinubu taking over the former vice president’s home state.
