Vice president Kashim Shettima Openly Makes “Special Request” To SGF George Akume
Nigeria’s vice president, Kashim Shettima has openly appealed to the secretary to the federation, George Akume to mend fences with Benue state governor, Hyacinth Alia.
Vice president Shettima made the remark while speaking at the ongoing Progressive Governors Forum Submit 2026. He emphasized that the Benue state people deserve peace and that former governor George Akume whom he appraised his decades of public service, describing him as an elder statesman who served as a director in the Nigeria’s public service, a permanent secretary, a governor of Benue state, a senator, and now the secretary to the government of the federation, should reconcile and work with governor Hyacinth Alia for the progress of Rivers state.
He urged the SGF to reach out to his political protege, governor Hyacinth Alia necessary for peace and unity in Benue state.

Vice President Shettima’s advice to the SGF highlights the efforts of notable persons towards bringing peace between him and governor Hyacinth Alia. Reports suggest that the Benue state APC has been factionalized into two due to the lingering crisis between the duo. According to report, the APC local government areas and wards congress in Benue state was conducted by the two factions in the state, putting the APC’s leadership in Benue state in a political serious risk.
