Pregnant Nigerian refugee dies after mysterious attack in UN camp

A pregnant Nigerian woman has been confirmed dead in a mysterious attack on Gwoza refugees in a United Nations camp in Minawao, Cameroon.

Sources say she and her husband were attacked in their camp lodging by unknown assailants but her husband survived.

Prior to this, there had been multiple incursions on the camp residence of the refugees chairman by suspected hostile actors.

“Unfortunately, despite approval and final clearance for resettlement in the USA, last year the administration halted the refugees’ airlift to America leaving him exposed and vulnerable,” a source close to the refugees told News Express yesterday night, Monday, February 23, 2026.

“Proactive UN officials were later able to urgently relocate to a European country for safety,” the source added.
