Beloved Actor Passes Away At 53 After Health Struggle

According to report, California-born actor Eric Dane, celebrated for his roles as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, has passed away at the age of 53 after a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The actor had publicly discussed his ALS diagnosis in 2025, shedding light on the progressive neurological condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

Dane’s family confirmed that he died on Thursday afternoon, surrounded by his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia. In a statement, the family described the children as the centre of Dane’s world and expressed gratitude to fans for their support.

The actor first gained widespread acclaim as the charismatic “Dr. McSteamy” on Grey’s Anatomy, quickly becoming a fan favourite. He later explored darker roles, notably portraying the family patriarch Cal Jacobs in Euphoria. Over his career, Dane also appeared in series such as Charmed and The Last Ship, as well as films including Marley & Me, Valentine’s Day, and Burlesque.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and collaborators. Grey’s Anatomy co-star Kim Raver praised Dane’s playful spirit and impeccable comedic timing, while Kevin McKidd shared a heartfelt farewell. Euphoria creator Sam Levinson described working with Dane as an honour and his friendship as a gift.
