“Why I Chose to Be Weak”, Fubara Emotionally Explains After Winning New Telegraph Award

Governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara was the centre of attention at the New Telegraph Awards Night which held on 13th of February in Lagos.

The governor while given his vote of thanks, highlighted his journey as the governor of Rivers state in view of his political crisis with his predecessor, FCT minister, Nyesom Wike. Mr. Fubara thanked the board of the New Telegraph for the award, describing it as being very important and making the day special for him and to those who believe in him and share in his pain.

He stated that he is being described as weak for his choices especially threading on the path of peace during the Rivers state crisis. According to him, he chose being weak not because he has no strength but because he places Rivers people and Nigeria above his personal interest or political ambition. Hence, his being weak was to protect what he loves–peace, stating that weakness is virtue that pays at the right time.

“Today is very special for me, also special for everyone who believe in me and for believing in me, you have the share of our special pain. Some of this pain, some persons describe them as weakness while others see it as being strong– but I chose for a lot of reasons to be weak–Weak because I want peace–weak because we need to survive–weak because I need to also protect those things that are dear not just to me but to our dear nation. So I want to say it’s a special day for everyone. Weakness is a virtue, it pays at the right time”.

Fubara thereafter dedicated the award to his family, the Rivers state people whom he said showed great maturity and restraint during the political crisis. He also dedicated the award to FCT minister, Nyesom Wike for bringing him into limelight and giving him the platform.
