US Rep. Riley Moore Speaks On The Implication Of “Dividing Nigeria” On Christians
U.S lawmaker and global advocate for religious freedom, Riley Moore has revealed that the idea of dividing Nigeria “has not come up in any serious way”, highlighting the implication of such a move on Christians in the north and middle belt.
Rep. Riley Moore who late 2025 led a US delegation to Nigeria on fact-finding mission on christian genócide in Nigeria, through his X account on February 7th, stated that he does not give strong recommendation to the idea of dividing Nigeria amid secessionist agitations in the country. Rep. Riley Moore argued that the idea of dividing Nigeria will likely destabilize the country, making christians in the north and middle belt more vulnerable to persecution by islamists.
“In my discussions, the idea of dividing the country has not come up in any serious way. Efforts to embolden separatists hurts Christians in Nigeria – especially in the North and Middle Belt.
A destabilized Nigeria would embolden terrorists and make Christians less safe in Nigeria and across the continent”, he wrote on his X account @RepRileyMoore.
The US lawmaker reiterated his commitment to working with relevant authorities in ensuring the protection of Nigeria christians from religious viólence across the country. He cited Nigeria’s recent military pact with the US government as a veritable means to tackling religious viólence in the country.
” I remain committed to working to save the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ – and for that matter, all Nigerians – suffering from the instability wrought by terrorists throughout Nigeria.
The US and Nigeria have just entered into a security cooperation agreement, and that is an important step in tackling the violence in Nigeria and deepening and strengthening the bilateral relationship between our great nations”, Rep. Riley Moore stated.
This comes amid reports being peddled by pro-secessionists in Nigeria that the US government is considering supporting the division of Nigeria into smaller countries as a means to ending religious viólence against christians in Nigeria.
