Israeli Government Condemns Gruesome Killing Of Kwara Residents, Expresses Solidarity With Nigeria
Israeli mission expressed deep sympathy with the families of the victims and all those affected by the deadly attack, which is considered one of the worst mass killings in Nigeria in recent times.
The Embassy of Israel in Nigeria has condemned the gruesome massacre in Kwara State that left more than 160 people dead, describing the killings as a horrific act of violence against innocent civilians.
In a statement shared on X handle on Friday, the Israeli mission expressed deep sympathy with the families of the victims and all those affected by the deadly attack, which is considered one of the worst mass killings in Nigeria in recent times.
“The Embassy of Israel in Nigeria condemns the horrific massacre in Kwara State, in which over 160 innocent people were brutally murdered,” the statement said.
The Embassy described the attack as an affront to humanity, stressing that the deliberate targeting of civilians is unacceptable under any circumstances.
“The deliberate targeting of civilians is an affront to humanity and can never be justified no matter when or where it takes place,” the statement added.
Israel also expressed solidarity with the Nigerian government and people, pledging support for Nigeria’s efforts to tackle insecurity and protect civilians.
“Israel stands in solidarity with the people and Government of Nigeria in their efforts to confront violence and protect innocent lives,” the Embassy said.
The condemnation comes amid widespread local and international outrage over the massacre, which reportedly occurred in a rural community in Kwara State, where armed attackers invaded the area on Tuesday, killing residents and burning houses.
Although details of the attack are still emerging, humanitarian organisations and local residents have put the death toll at over 160, with many bodies reportedly recovered from burned homes and surrounding areas. Several residents are also believed to be missing, raising fears that the casualty figure could rise further.
The massacre has sparked renewed criticism of Nigeria’s worsening security situation, particularly in rural communities that remain vulnerable to attacks by armed groups.
President Bola Tinubu had condemned the killings and ordered the deployment of security forces to the affected area, while pledging that those responsible will be brought to justice. However, residents and civil society groups have continued to accuse the government of failing to prevent repeated attacks despite early warning signs.
International actors, including diplomatic missions and global organisations, have increasingly voiced concern over the frequency and scale of violent attacks across Nigeria, particularly in the North-Central and North-West regions.
Security experts warn that unless urgent and coordinated measures are taken to protect rural communities, address intelligence failures and tackle the root causes of violence, mass casualty attacks such as the Kwara massacre may continue.
For now, survivors and grieving families are calling for justice, accountability and sustained security presence to prevent further bloodshed, as the nation mourns yet another tragic loss of innocent lives.
