Coup plotters know consequences of their action – Defence minister

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has said that those behind the foiled coup know the consequences of their actions and must have put their families into consideration.

Musa, who stated this during an appearance on TRT World, a Turkish broadcaster, added that the accused individuals would get a fair trial.

According to the military, the coup plot was uncovered in September 2025 through joint intelligence from the army, Department of State Services (DSS), and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).

It allegedly involved plans to assassinate Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and other top government figures, and to also arrest senior military leaders.

Musa, while addressing the issue, said the families of the federal government will look after the families of the perpetrators.

“They must have made up their minds when they decided to do this and must have considered their families.

“But even at that, the government is ensuring that their families are treated fairly.

“Their family members are not left alone. The government is making sure that their wives and children are looked after.

“The perpetrators already know the repercussions of their action, and I’m sure they are ready to face the wrath,” Musa said.
