Shake-Up As Lagos Lawmaker Dumps  Party, Joins ADC

According to Ireporter Online, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Foluke Stella Osafile, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Osafile, who represents Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I, is currently the sole opposition lawmaker in the 40-member Assembly. The first-time legislator is expected to formally notify the House of her defection during plenary in the coming days.

Confirming the development in a brief conversation with journalists, the lawmaker acknowledged her move to the ADC but declined to disclose the reasons behind her decision. She assured that an official announcement would be made on the floor of the Assembly at the appropriate time.

Osafile currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Wealth Creation. She was elected into the Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party after defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Folorunso Olaitan Segun, by a significant margin.

Her victory was later challenged by the APC at the Election Petition Tribunal, which initially ruled in favour of the APC candidate. However, the lawmaker approached the Court of Appeal, where she successfully reclaimed her mandate, bringing the legal battle to a close.
