Presidency Tells Fubara To Follow Ondo 2023 Script To Frustrate His Impeachment
Nigeria’s presidency has reportedly informed Rivers state governor, Sim Fubara that there will be no direct involvement or intervention in his political feud with his political benefactor, Nyesom Wike and the Rivers state House Assembly members.
A source who is privy to the development informed us that the presidency has responded to governor Sim Fubara’s appeal to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in their meeting in France a few days ago. The governor is said to have clandestinely met president Tinubu in France, briefing him on the political conspiracy against him by the members of the Rivers state House of Assembly loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike.
Reliant.ng had reported that governor Sim Fubara suggested to the president how he intends to frustrate the impeachment proceeding against him in a manner more civil than the way he mishandled the previous impeachment proceeding against him which escalated the political tension in the state leading to demolotion of the Rivers state House of Assembly complex and the federal government intervention via state of emergency.
A top official in the Rivers state government has told us that the presidency has advised governor Sim Fubara to follow Ondo state 2023 precedence by the then deputy governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to frustrate the impeachment proceeding against him.
Recall that in 2023, deputy governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa faced impeachment by the members of the Ondo state House of Assembly following the prolonged absence of the then governor of the state due to illness. The state house of assembly wrote to the chief judge of the state, urging him to set up a seven-man panel to investigate the allegation of misconduct levied against the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa whose principal, governor Rotimi Akeredolu was battling with ill-health that later claimed his life.
The then deputy governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa went to a Federal High Court and applied for Retraining Order which was issued, mandating the state’s chief judged not to proceed with the impeachment proceeding as requested by the members of the state’s assembly.
In obedience to the rule of law, the then chief judge of Ondo state, acting in line with the restraining order, declined to constitute the seven-man panel requested by the state house of assembly; inadvertently frustrating the impeachment proceeding.
Hence, governor Sim Fubara according to the source, has been advised to follow the Ondo state 2023 script to frustrate the Martin Amaewhule and his fellow Assemblymen impeachment plot against the governor.
Hence, it’s believed that the restraining order from the Rivers state High Court proves that governor Sim Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu are following the advice given to them by the presidency.
As a result, the impeachment proceeding against Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy will remain pending until the court hears and concludes the case. This implies that the Rivers state House of Assembly members have been arm twisted, will have to obey the restraining order or risk being held in contempt of the court if they flouted the court order.
