Presidency Furious As It Disvovers Wike’s Alleged Link To A New Political Party

Former governor Nyesom Wike has seemingly strained further his wobbly relationship with the presidency by his clandestine alliance with a new political party other than the All Progressive Congress (APC).

According to an insider who is privy to the development, Nyesom Wike is disgruntled by the APC national leadership support for governor Siminalayi Fubara’s reelection in 2027; a political move president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s has endorsed at the expense of Nyesom Wike’s own political interest in Rivers state.

Nyesom Wike has sworn that governor Sim Fubara will never return reelected in 2027 and is determined to fulfilling his threat whether or not that endangers his relationship with president Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to the insider, Wike already feels betrayed by the presidency for their taking side with Sim Fubara and giving Fubara national prominence and relevance just like his recent inclusion in the APC reconciliation and peace Committee constituted by president Tinubu himself. Wike considers this as a backstab and is determined to pursue his own political course away from the presidency irrespective of what the president may feel about him.

“Sim Fubara has been endorsed by the national leadership of the APC. Wike does not like this. Nobody in the place of Wike will like that. Fubara has the right of refusal not to be the APC flag bearer in 2027. But this was not the agreement Wike reached with him in a peace deal mediated by the presidency”.

The source added that while Wike’s political allies comprising serving senators and members of the House of Representatives are switching to the APC, Wike has secretly struck a deal with another political party – National Democratic Party (NDP) on whose platform he will field a governorship candidate to contest against Sim Fubara since the APC’s national leadership has concluded on adopting governor Sim Fubara as the party’s governorship candidate for Rivers state in 2027.

“Wike’s candidate will contest on NDP. NDP was on ballot paper in 2023 and Wike has concluded plans to align with them. He will produce the party’s governorship candidate”.

He thereafter revealed that some of the Wike’s allies who recently announced their defection to the APC will likely switch to the NDP if the odds are against them in APC and that Wike will neither defect to APC nor NDP so that he will not be accused of anti-party.

“The plan is that while they remain in APC and get reelection ticket there, they would support the governorship candidate of the NDP. Wike will remain in PDP– if he joins APC, they will accuse of anti-party because of his alliance with NDP in Rivers state. So he will not join them. He will stay and fight in PDP till the Supreme court decides”.

The presidency is said to have discovered about Nyesom Wike’s political plot and appears unhappy that he is going against the will of the president who has concluded that Fubara should be allowed to seek reelection. Hence, members of the presidency see the development as Wike vs Tinubu in Rivers state.
