Budget: FG to pay N16trn debts, N64bn rent in 2026 appropriation

The Federal Government will pay total debts of N15,520,821,315,539 and presidential rent of N63,891,883 in the 2026 appropriation bill.
Out of this figure, domestic debt, including ways and means, is N10,160,856,017,502, whereas foreign debt is N5,359,965,298,037.

This is contained in the 2026 appropriation bill document released by the Budget Office of the Federation in Abuja.

While the government plans to spend N63,891,883 as rent in the Presidency, N150,073,729 will go for refreshments.

Following irregular electricity supply in the Villa, the government allocated N1,989,579,359 for generator/plant fuel cost, while N22,229,287 will go for cooking gas/fuel cost.

Meanwhile, N58,472,628,944,759 is for an Act to authorise the issue from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation, of which N4,097,381,103,856 is for statutory transfers; N15,909,361,631,657 is for debt service; N15,251,538,827,423 is for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure; while the sum of N23,214,347,381,824 is for contribution to the Development Fund for capital expenditure for the year ending 31 December 2026.

Also, revenue from tax is expected to be N124,254,290,360, while non-tax revenue is N845,977,000,000 and operating cost is expected to be N3,337,102,213,362. Total independent revenue is put at N4,307,333,503,722.

“The Accountant-General of the Federation shall, when authorised to do so by warrants signed by the minister charged with the responsibility for finance, pay out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation during the year ending 31 December 2025 the sums specified by the warrants, not exceeding in the aggregate N58,472,628,944,759 for the year ending 31 December 2026,” the document said.
