Bandits release contact number after killing, abducting residents in Plateau

Bandits have released a contact number to family members in Saran Allah community, Garga District in Kanam LGA of Plateau State after they killed one person and abducted two others.

Residents said the bandits intentionally left a phone number to facilitate ransom negotiations.

The Kanam Development Association (KADA), a socio-cultural organisation, condemned the attack, describing it as deadly and inhuman.

The group called on relevant authorities to take decisive actions against banditry, which they said was threatening the survival of their community.

In a statement, Shehu Kanam and Garba Gambo Aliyu, chairman and secretary of the group, respectively, said the gunmen attacked the community around 12pm.

The statement reads in part: “We are shocked and saddened by the brutal attack on the Saran Allah community which resulted in the death of one person, Nuhu Idi, and the abduction of two others. This incident appears to be a direct consequence of the recent release of a suspected bandit who was arrested and handed over to security personnel by the community.

“We condemn the actions of the security personnel involved and demand an immediate investigation to identify and punish those responsible for that suspect’s release.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and the abducted individuals. May God have mercy on the soul of the deceased and grant his family the fortitude to bear this painful loss.

“We commend the community’s vigilance and call on all citizens to remain alert. We urge the authorities to take concrete steps to address the recurring insecurity in the Garga area.”

The state police command was yet to react to the development.
