The Nigerian Army has recorded a major security success with the interception of an armoury linked to a high-profile criminal suspect in Taraba State, identified as John Gata.
A credible source at the Army Headquarters disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the operation was carried out following actionable intelligence received by security agencies. According to the source, intelligence reports indicated that the suspect’s wife was transporting a cache of arms and ammunition from Amadu Village, moving through Wukari, Kyado and Zaki-Biam, with Gboko as the final destination.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops mounted a coordinated interception along the identified routes. The operation led to the recovery of several dangerous weapons and ammunition believed to be part of an armoury used to support criminal activities in the region. The seizure is seen as a significant blow to organised crime networks operating across Taraba and neighbouring states.
Military sources said the intercepted arms were intended to strengthen the operational capacity of criminal elements responsible for violence, banditry and other security threats in parts of the North-Central and North-East regions.
