The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reacted to a fatal road accident that reportedly killed seven residents of Lawanti community in Akko Local Government Area on Saturday.
This occurred while they were travelling to Maiduguri, Borno State, for a wedding ceremony.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ismaila Misilli, on Saturday Governor Yahaya described the incident as “painful and devastating,” saying the tragedy is a blow not only to the victims’ families but to the entire Lawanti community and Gombe State at large.
It was learnt that multiple members of families and community leaders were affected, including the District Head of Jalingo, Bello Hassan Babangida.
Babangida lost his sister and niece; Idris Lawanti Maigari, who lost his daughter; and the Akko Ward Councillor, Idris A. Isah Lawanti, who also lost close relatives.
“No words can adequately console families who have lost loved ones under such tragic circumstances,” Yahaya said, adding that the deaths had “deeply touched the hearts of all.”
The governor prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved families and asked Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.
