What Transpired Between Wike And Fubara At A Burial Ceremony In Rivers State Today
Amid the glaring political feud between governor Sim Fubara and his hitherto political godfather and mentor, Nyesom Wike, the duo met today 20th of December at the burial ceremony of late Mrs. Amachree today in Buguma, Rivers State.
The cold exchange of the greetings between two erstwhile political allies has generated buzz on Nigeria’s social media community.
A trending video online captured moment governor Sim Fubara arrived at the venue of the burial ceremony and headed for where FCT minister, Nyesom Wike was entering his name in the condolence register. Nyesom Wike was jolted by the governor and he haggardly turned from the condolence register to exchange handshake with governor Fubara uneasily.
Former governor Nyesom Wike’s mien during the exchange of greetings which lasted barely a minute, was that of unease, defeated, and unconfident as demonstrated by his quick return to the condolence register even when governor Fubara was still standing behind him.
The two Rivers state politicians after the incident also occupied two separate sitting locations. FCT minister and the some members of the Rivers state House of Assembly who are loyal to him, sat about a table while governor Sim Fubara with his allies sat about another in a manner that denotes: “we are enemies and have nothing to do with each other”.
This has further given credence to claims by political commentators that governor Sim Fubara’s recent move to the All Progressive Congress (APC) is to break off from the strong political grip of his erstwhile godfather, Nyesom Wike, a development which seems to have weaken former governor Nyesom Wike’s political influence on governor Fubara ad president Bola Ahmed Tinubu seem to have endorsed his switch to the APC at the expense of Nyesom Wike’s resistance.
Many believe that the peace brokered by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu between the due has brokendown and that the president is hesitant to compelling the two to work together especially after his first attempt which has seemingly ended in fiasco.
