U.S. & Europe declares support for state police and other Nigeria’s Security Plan

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that he has assured United States and European partners that his administration is committed to establishing state police as part of efforts to strengthen security across Nigeria.

Speaking at a recent APC National Caucus meeting in Abuja, the President said discussions with foreign partners focused on Nigeria’s security challenges and the need for a more decentralised policing system.

According to Tinubu, he expressed confidence in the plan, stressing that he has the backing of his party and believes state police will help communities respond more effectively to local security threats.

He also reminded party leaders that unity, tolerance, and flexibility are essential for political stability, adding that reconciliation within the party must be taken seriously at all levels.

On Local Government Autonomy

Tinubu also revisited the Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy, urging APC leaders to support full implementation. He stressed that autonomy is meaningless without proper funding, insisting that local government allocations must go directly to the councils.

According to him, strong and well-funded local governments are key to improving governance and stabilising communities nationwide.

Call for Inclusion

The President further called for greater inclusion of women in party leadership and political participation, urging stakeholders to deliberately create opportunities for women within the party structure.

Shettima: Success Is Harder to Maintain

Vice President Kashim Shettima also spoke at the meeting, warning party leaders against complacency. He noted that while the APC has expanded its influence across most regions of the country, maintaining dominance requires discipline, unity, and internal democracy.

Shettima described the ruling party as a growing political force, expressing confidence that the APC’s strength will extend beyond the 2027 elections if internal cohesion is preserved.
