Umaugba Ruling House of Ifon Demands Presentation of Three Nominees, Rejects Imposition of Sole Candidate

The Umaugba Ruling House of Ifon has strongly rejected the unilateral presentation of a sole candidate to the Ifon kingmakers, insisting that all three duly nominated candidates of the family must be presented in line with tradition and fairness.

In a press release signed by the Deputy Head of the family and released to Our Heritage Reporter online, jointly by Prince Akindipe Adepoyigi, and the Secretary, Prince Kole Odogiyon, the ruling house clarified that no single candidate was ever adopted by the family, describing claims to the contrary as misleading and unlawful.

The family called for a level playing field that would allow the kingmakers freely choose from the three nominees earlier agreed upon by family members.

Full statement reads:

THE UMAUGBA RULING HOUSE OF IFON CALLS FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE THREE NOMINATED CANDIDATES OF THE FAMILY TO THE KINGMAKERS, REJECTS THE UNLAWFUL AND UNILATERAL PRESENTATION OF A SOLE CANDIDATE TO THE KINGMAKERS BY THE HEAD OF THE FAMILY.

Members of the Umaugba Ruling House of Ifon have called for the presentation of all the three candidates nominated by the family members in a meeting held on the 22nd of May, 2022.

In a press release issued and signed by the Deputy Head of the family, Prince Akindipe Adepoyigi and the Secretary, Prince Kole Odogiyon, the family stated that a sole candidate was never nominated by the family at any point in time, contrary to the erroneous claim of the family head, Prince Adekolu Odogiyon, who was determined to usurp the traditional responsibilities of the Ifon kingmakers by his attempt at imposing his preferred candidate on them and the entire community.

It was further stated that his preferred candidate had been presented to the Ifon kingmakers on the 12th of April, 2023 and was overwhelmingly rejected by ten out of the thirteen kingmakers.

To enhance a level playing ground for all the nominated candidates of the Umaugba Ruling House whose names are as follows, the family demands for their presentation to the kingmakers so as to enable them pick their preferred choice from among them.

1. Prince Adesola Adepoyigi
2. Prince Adetayo Oyegbeha Odogiyon
3. Prince Adelanke Adetoyese Odogiyon
