PRP Says ‘No Room’ For Bauchi Governor Bala Muhammad Amid Defection Rumours

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the State Secretary of the party, Wada Abdullahi, said the PRP has “set clear boundaries” and does not welcome the Bauchi governor into its fold should the rumours of defection turn out to be true.

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has denied reports suggesting that Governor Bala Muhammad is considering joining the party following what it described as the “disbandment and inevitable collapse” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the State Secretary of the party, Wada Abdullahi, said the PRP has “set clear boundaries” and does not welcome the Bauchi governor into its fold should the rumours of defection turn out to be true.

According to the party, Bala Muhammad is not an acceptable fit for the PRP for several reasons.

The statement read, “His tenure as governor has been characterised by poor performance, which we find both disappointing and unacceptable.”

It further criticised the governor’s conduct, adding that his behaviour — and that of his supporters — during recent political activities at Wadata Plaza in Abuja was inconsistent with PRP values.

“Such behaviour is inconsistent with the values of our party, which stands for sanity, decency, orderliness, and discipline,” the party said.

The PRP also stated that if it forms the government in 2027, it intends to “thoroughly investigate his administration, bring any wrongdoers to book, and review policies implemented during his tenure.”

The statement added that the party would reverse any policies it considers detrimental to the state, including “controversial decisions such as the creation of a First Class Emirate and the appointment of his elder brother as Emir.”

Despite its firm stance on the governor, the party emphasised that its doors remain open to individuals who “have contributed positively to the development of Bauchi State” and who can support the growth of the PRP.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to integrity and service.
