Umahi Urges EFCC and ICPC to Investigate Tinubu Era’s Billion-Naira Road Projects
David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has announced that he has submitted all ongoing and completed federal road projects initiated during President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for their investigation. He characterized this action as an unprecedented move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.
Speaking during an inspection of the Mararaba–Keffi road project in Abuja, Mr. Umahi stated that he personally communicated with both anti-corruption agencies, providing them with a detailed list of every project undertaken by the ministry since President Tinubu took office.
“I reached out to the ICPC and submitted all projects initiated by the president from his first day in office. We requested a nationwide verification of these projects, and this initiative is a first of its kind,” he disclosed, adding that he had briefed the president at a recent Federal Executive Council meeting.
While he confirmed that the same project list had also been sent to the EFCC, Umahi admitted he was uncertain about whether the agency had begun deploying verification teams throughout the states. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to ensuring complete transparency and high-quality project delivery.
Umahi praised President Tinubu for the swift approval of funds following a recent issue on a road project in Nasarawa, noting that the approval came within 24 hours of his report.
He also addressed the matter of overdue contractor payments, revealing that the president had established a committee to assess all debts owed by the ministry. “Please, no more protests. Payments will be made before December 20,” he assured, mentioning that companies like China Harbour and contractors involved in the Keffi–Mararaba project have not yet received payment despite having secured necessary approvals.
Furthermore, Mr. Umahi commended CGC for its outstanding project performance and applauded local contractor JRB, asserting that their work quality exceeded that of several international firms.
