Governor Fubara Replies Speaker Martin Amaewhule Recent Attack On His Administration Amid Renewed Face off

Governor Sim Fubara has responded to the recent statement made by the speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, Martin Chike Amaewhule in which he insinuated that governor Sim Fubara’s administration ineptitude is the reason most of the state’s institutions lie in bad state.

Recall that the Reliant.ng had reported how Speaker Martin Amaewhule criticized the administration of Sim Fubara over the “deplorable” condition of the state’s institutions.

Martin Amaewhule claimed that the Fubara’s administration which inherited more than six hundred billion naira from the Ibas administration, has done little since his return after his six month suspension, to improving the state’s institutions especially the primary and secondary schools in the state.

Martin Amaewhule noted that most of the state’s secondary and primary school buildings have leaking roof and poor furniture for students and teachers. He vowed that the Rivers state house of assembly under his leadership will investigate allocations given to agencies by the Fubara’s administration to determine how the funds meant for such neglected institutions are utilized.

Governor Fubara in his response to Martin Amaewhule’s claims while speaking at the quarterly meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt, stated that his administration prioritizes education.

He said his administration dedication to improving the education sector of the state is the reason his administration gave the biggest allocation to education in the 2026 proposed budget.

While admitting that the state’s primary school buildings are in bad condition, Fubara noted that it did not just happen overnight. He reminded the speaker about how the then opposition parties used the condition of some of state’s primary and secondary school buildings to campaign in 2023.

He explained that his administration is committed to reversing the negative trend and that his efforts are paying off. The governor thereafter highlighted his administration’s accomplishment in other sectors: health, labour and employment, etc.

The governor also appreciated the members of the River State Council of Traditional Rulers for the role in restoring peace and normalcy in Rivers state, noting that there intervention is the reason the state now enjoys peace and stability
