Ex-Buhari’s Minister Announces 2027 Governorship Ambition
Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has formally declared his intention to contest the Kebbi State governorship seat in the 2027 election.
Speaking during an interview with DCL Hausa on Monday—monitored by our heritage Reporter online Malami pledged to prioritise security and revitalise the state’s declining agricultural sector if elected. He expressed confidence in the depth of his political support across the state.
“INEC guidelines do not allow mobilisation at this stage, but when the time comes, it will be evident that the people of Kebbi are with us. I have decided to run, and there is no turning back. By God’s grace, we will win and will not disappoint those who believe in us,” he stated.
Malami criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, alleging that the party’s policies have exacerbated insecurity in the North and exposed farmers to greater risks.
He lamented the closure of long-standing rice mills, which he attributed to policies that he said favour foreign businesses over local producers.
He described the situation as a consequence of “negligence and policy failure” at both state and federal levels.
According to him, his governorship bid is driven by a commitment to “rescue Kebbi State,” restore security, rebuild agricultural productivity, and protect the welfare of residents.
He emphasised that his campaign is not motivated by personal interest but by a desire to address the state’s pressing challenges.
Malami resigned from the All Progressives Congress in July and defected to the African Democratic Congress, a move he said followed extensive consultations and thoughtful personal reflection.
He stressed that his decision was not borne out of resentment or personal ambition, but out of “love for the nation and concern for the daily hardship faced by citizens
