FCT Minister Wike Dismisses Former Army Chief’s Call for Apology
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Thursday responded to comments by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), regarding last week’s altercation with naval officers led by Lt. A.M. Yerima. Wike described Buratai’s interpretation of the incident as misleading and rejected calls for an apology.
Speaking to reporters at his Life Camp residence, Wike said the confrontation arose from a disputed plot in the Gaduwa District, which the FCT Administration considers illegally acquired by former Naval Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo. He added that Lt. Yerima had escalated the situation by following an unlawful order.
Wike further criticised Buratai, questioning his authority to lecture him on conduct and recalling past political incidents involving the former army chief.
He reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu and stressed his commitment to upholding the law. The minister also called on all public officials to respect legal processes and the rule of law, regardless of rank or position.
