Another Kano Lawmaker Quits NNPP Over Deepening Leadership Crisis
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has lost yet another federal lawmaker, as Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, officially resigned from the party, citing the worsening internal crisis within its leadership.
In a letter dated November 11, 2025, and addressed to the NNPP Ward Chairperson of Zaitawa Ward, Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Koki said his decision to quit the party was based on his constitutional right to freedom of association.
“By virtue of Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution, I hereby resign my membership of the NNPP effective November 11, 2025,” he stated.
Koki explained that the persistent leadership tussle at the party’s national level had crippled its operations, making it difficult for him to effectively represent the people of Kano Municipal in the National Assembly.
He thanked the NNPP for the opportunity to serve, expressing gratitude for the support and experience gained during his tenure.
His resignation follows that of another Kano lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, who left the NNPP two months ago and recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As of press time, Koki has not announced his next political destination.
