“My Muslim Uncle Loved Me Like No One Else — Pastor Adeboye Reflects on Peaceful Past Between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A. Adeboye, has shared touching memories of his upbringing in a religiously diverse Nigeria where Christians and Muslims once lived in harmony.

Speaking in a video posted on YouTube by Divine Encounter, a channel owned by the church, Adeboye recalled growing up surrounded by Muslims, including a beloved uncle who treated him with deep affection.

“There was a time in Nigeria when Christians and Muslims lived together in harmony,”

“My elder sister was married to a Muslim. My father and mother were Christians, but my sister’s husband was named Adeatu. I still have cousins named Razak and Musiliu. We lived in peace and celebrated both Christmas and Ileya together.”

The revered pastor went on to recount fond memories of fasting with his Muslim uncle, humorously noting that his “fasting” would begin close to the time of breaking, just so he could share in the evening feast.

“That man loved me like nobody else. Even though my name was Enoch, he would wake me up at night to eat pounded yam with him,” he said.
