Why we dumped PDP for APC – Enugu Reps
Five members of the House of Representatives from Enugu State have officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing their move to the leadership style and achievements of Governor Peter Mbah.
Their defection was announced on Thursday during plenary, in letters read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen. The switch increases the number of Enugu federal lawmakers now in the APC to eight.
The defectors include Hon. Chidi Mark Obetta (Nsukka/Igboeze South), Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu (Aninri/Awgu/Oji River), Hon. Dennis Nnamdi Agbo (Igbo-Eze North/Udenu), Hon. Oke Martins (Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani), and Hon. Nnolim John Nnaji (Nkanu East/Nkanu West).
Their decision was made public in the presence of APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.
Speaking for the group, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji said the move was a deliberate step to position Enugu State for greater participation in national development.
“For too long, our dear Enugu has stood in opposition, watching others shape the nation’s destiny and enjoy the benefits of governance,” he said. “That time has passed. We are ready to connect our people to national growth and opportunity.”
Nnaji praised Governor Mbah for his “transformational leadership” and the strides made in education, aviation, technology, and security, noting that Enugu has become a model for good governance and investor confidence.
He added that the lawmakers are committed to collaborating with both the state government and the APC-led Federal Government to drive inclusive development across Enugu.
“Our best days are not behind us; they are just beginning,” Nnaji declared.
