Massive Fire At Adidas Store In Jabi Mall Abuja Destroys N6billion Goods
According to the Federal Fire Service (FFS), the inferno, which raged for more than six hours, was successfully contained through the efforts of multiple fire units, including appliances FFS 75, FFS 88, and FFS 164, with crucial support from the Julius Berger Fire Service.
Amassive fire outbreak on Wednesday night gutted parts of the Adidas Store at Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the Federal Fire Service (FFS), the inferno, which raged for more than six hours, was successfully contained through the efforts of multiple fire units, including appliances FFS 75, FFS 88, and FFS 164, with crucial support from the Julius Berger Fire Service.
The operation, led by Crew Commander S.F. Agbo, reportedly prevented what could have been a total loss of the multi-billion-naira establishment.
In a statement signed by the National PRO and Head of Corporate Services, DCF P.O. Abraham, the FFS said quick intervention by its officers helped save goods worth approximately ₦94 billion out of an estimated ₦100 billion pre-incident stock.
“The professionalism, coordination, and courage displayed by our officers reflect the Service’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the nation,” Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, was quoted as saying.
While the cause of the fire remains unclear, authorities confirmed that the flames were confined to a section of the mall, preventing it from spreading to adjoining stores and public spaces.
No casualties were reported as of press time, though eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as shoppers and mall workers scrambled for safety when the blaze erupted.
The Fire Service has since urged business owners, facility managers, and residents to adopt basic preventive measures such as routine electrical checks, avoiding overloaded circuits, installing fire detection systems, and ensuring that emergency exits are always accessible.
