Why Peter Obi Is Not Nigeria’s Messiah – Dele Farotimi
Lawyer and advocate for good governance, Dele Farotimi has stated that Nigerians should not expect a Messiah who would rescue the country from its decades of bad leadership.
Dele Farotimi who was responding to a question by one of his X followers who sought to know from him whether Peter Obi should be seen as Nigeria’s Messiah, responded by saying that Nigerians should not a Messiah other than their selves.
The X handle Herdeys1 asked: ” Is Peter Obi the messiah we are expecting?”
Dele Farotimi pointed out in response that everyone is his own messiah. He urged Nigerians to desist from expecting a political leader as a Messiah who would salvage the country from its accumulated problems of bad leadership. He explained further that those who are anticipating a political leader as a Messiah should be questioned for holding such belief.
According to him, every Nigerian holds his own destiny in his hands and must by his own hands shape his fate by fighting his way out of the endemic challenges in Nigeria which are occasioned by bad leadership.
” I expect no messiah to save Nigeria and the victims of Nigeria, and anyone expecting a messiah should have their brains examined. Your messiah resides in your mirror, nobody’s coming to save us, it is up to us to save ourselves”.
Dele Farotimi has remained a trusted ally of Mr. Peter Obi. His support for Peter Obi’s presidential ambition since 2022, has remained unwavering.
The activist had severally appealed to Nigerians to ensure that Mr. Peter Obi is elected Nigerian’s president; highlighting Peter Obi’s competence, his integrity, commitment to public service, his accomplishment as Anambra State governor, and lack of corruption scandal.
His support for Peter Obi’s presidential ambition has also extended to 2027. He has openly declared his support for Mr. Peter Obi 2027 presidential bid; backing Peter Obi’s single tenure presidency proposal.
