Popular Nigerian Senator in Secret Talks with ADC Leaders Amid PDP Crisis
Reliable sources have revealed that the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Senator Lere Oyewumi, recently held a secret meeting with the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja.
According to insiders familiar with the development, the meeting was part of the Senator’s consultations amid the growing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) both at the national and state levels. The source, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the Senator is weighing his political options as some of his colleagues are already in talks to defect from the PDP.
“The Senator is considering his next move carefully. The meeting with ADC leaders is strategic because the party is reportedly considering him for its governorship ticket ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election,” the source said.
Earlier, reports emerged that the Senator’s son, accused some PDP leaders of conspiring to deny his father the senatorial ticket. ticket to be withdrawn from his father and handed instead to Chief (Mrs.) Yeyeluwa Dupe Sanni Adeleke, sister to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
However, the political dynamics appear to be shifting. Sources within the PDP disclosed that Governor Adeleke is yet to decide on who will eventually fly the party’s flag, preferring to “keep the ticket within his control” until the political atmosphere becomes clearer ahead of 2026.
Meanwhile, in the event that Senator Oyewumi leaves the PDP or fails to secure the party’s backing, discussions within the ruling party suggest that Hon. Bamidele Salam, member representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency, is being considered as a possible replacement for the Osun West Senatorial ticket in 2027.
Political observers believe these new developments may further deepen the internal crisis within the PDP in Osun State, as various factions continue to jostle for control ahead of crucial election cycles.
