SDP Party Expels Former National Chairman Gabam, Youth Leader Over Misconduct
The expulsion, according to Aiyenigba, is necessary to “restore integrity, discipline, and internal order within the SDP.”
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled its former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, and several top officials, including National Youth Leader Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, over alleged misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office.
The decision was announced by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, following a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) that adopted the findings of the party’s Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper.
“The move followed the adoption of the report of the Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper which reviewed the findings and recommendations on the allegations brought against the affected officers,” Aiyenigba explained.
The expulsion, according to Aiyenigba, is necessary to “restore integrity, discipline, and internal order within the SDP.”
He added that other administrative recommendations from the White Paper would be implemented to prevent future breaches.
Other expelled members include Gabam, Uchechukwu, Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu, who were accused of disloyalty and unlawful entry into the party’s national secretariat.
Aiyenigba disclosed that the expelled members were caught by security operatives with sensitive documents and valuables allegedly removed from the secretariat and are currently facing criminal prosecution.
The National Working Committee (NWC) reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and constitutional order in the administration of the SDP.
The decision was unanimously endorsed by all members of the NWC, effective from Thursday, October 23, 2025
“The actions take immediate effect from Thursday, October 23, 2025,” Aiyenigba stated.
