Soldier on Holiday Shot Dead by Suspected Herders in Kwara

A Nigerian soldier on holiday has been shot dead by suspected herders in Manzhakwa community, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, after reportedly challenging them for brandishing firearms.

Sources said the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, when the soldier confronted the armed herders who were moving through the area. The confrontation allegedly turned violent as the herders overpowered and killed him on the spot.

Residents described the victim as a native of the community who had returned home to visit his family. A video circulating online shows his body surrounded by soldiers and villagers expressing anger over the rising insecurity in the area.

The killing comes just days after bandits attacked Mawogi village in the same local government, killing a youth leader and injuring his mother.

In a related development, another soldier, Private Usman Alhaji, attached to Apapa, Lagos, was also found dead in nearby Twatagi village after chasing an assailant who attacked him and a companion along a rural road. His body, discovered the next day with a stab wound to the neck, has been buried according to Islamic rites.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to apprehend the culprits behind both incidents.
