Man Seeks Police Advice After His Wife Refuses to Let Him Marry a Second Wife
A middle-aged man from Kano State has reportedly sought the intervention of the Nigeria Police after his wife allegedly refused to grant him permission to marry a second wife.

According to local reports, the man, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, approached the police station in the Sabon Gari area of Kano to “seek guidance” on how to handle his wife’s strong opposition to his marital plans.
Witnesses said the man claimed he had fulfilled all his marital duties to his first wife but desired to take another wife in accordance with Islamic teachings that allow Muslim men to marry up to four wives, provided they can treat them equally.

However, his first wife was said to have reacted angrily to his decision, reportedly threatening to leave the marriage if he went ahead with the new union.

The husband, apparently unwilling to lose his family, decided to take what many are calling an “unusual step” — going to the police to ask if it was within his wife’s right to stop him.
A police source who spoke anonymously confirmed the incident, saying:

“Yes, he came to the station asking if we could advise his wife to allow him to marry another woman peacefully. We told him it was a domestic issue that required family dialogue, not police enforcement.”

The story has since gone viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions. While some Nigerians criticized the man for involving the police in a family matter, others argued that he was simply exercising his religious right.
One online user wrote:

“Why go to the police? He should talk to his elders or an Imam. The police are not marriage counselors.”

Another commented:
“If the religion allows it and he can afford it, his wife should not stop him. But marriage is about understanding, not forcing decisions.”
