Ohanaeze disowns Sowore-Atiku protest over Kanu’s release

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, along with South-east governors and Igbo ministers Thursday condemned the planned protest scheduled for October 20, 2025, to demand the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The group said the protest, allegedly orchestrated by Omoyele Sowore and Atiku Abubakar, as a ploy to destabilise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.

In a joint statement Ohanaeze Ndigbo expressed extreme suspicion over the timing and purpose of the protest, opting instead for dialogue to resolve Kanu’s detention.

The statement endorsed by the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Thompson Ohia,

national spokesman of the group, stated commitment to the well-being of Ndigbo and the stability of Nigeria.

Part of the statement reads: “We, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in conjunction with the Southeast governors and Igbo ministers, address you today with a grave sense of responsibility and a profound commitment to the well-being of Ndigbo and the stability of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
