The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly begun disciplinary action against officers who unlawfully arrested and detained two female journalists during a funeral event in Jos, Plateau State.

The journalists — Ruth Marcus and Keshia Jang of Jay 101.9 FM — were covering the burial of the late mother of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, when they were apprehended by security operatives after sharing a video of a clash between clerics and security details at the church venue.

The video, which quickly went viral, showed visibly angry clerics protesting their denial of entry into the church. Following public outrage and widespread media attention, the DSS was compelled to release the reporters.

According to reliable sources, the DSS Director-General, Adeola Ajayi, has ordered that the officers responsible face disciplinary measures. The agency also reportedly apologized, describing the arrest as an “error in judgment.”

The move, insiders say, is meant to serve as a strong warning against future abuse of power within the service.
