Sweden to pay Nigerian immigrants and others $34,000 to voluntarily return to their country

Sweden to pay Nigerian immigrants and others $34,000 to voluntarily return to their country as from 2026.
In September 2024, the Swedish government announced plans to significantly increase financial incentives for immigrants who voluntarily return to their home countries, with the new policy to take effect in January 2026. The maximum grant will rise from a family maximum of 40,000 kronor (about $3,800) to 350,000 kronor ($34,000) for eligible immigrants.
This is part of a broader “paradigm shift” in Sweden’s migration policy. The right-wing coalition government, which is supported by the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats, has prioritized curbing immigration and addressing integration issues.
