Ondo senior chief lauds FG over Adeyemi Varsity.
The Odunwo of Ondo Kingdom, High Chief Olabanji Akingbule (MFR), has applauded the Federal GovernAment for the elevation of Adeyemi College of Education to a Univedsity of Education.
The Ondo city Senior Chief gave the commendation on Monday, September, 2025, while receiving members of top management of the University, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, who came to felicitate with him on his 100years birthday celebration, slated for Thursday October 2, 2025 in Ondo city.
Congratulating Prof. Popoola for his appointment as the first substantive vice-chancellor of the University, High Chief Odunwo Akingbule, described the development as good news, saying”Only the best is good for Ondo”.
The centenarian, who went memory lane, explained that the naming of the University after Cannon Adeyemi is very significant, because “the late educationist was instrumental to the development of Education and regarded as role model by people of Ondo Community”.
He said “I am always proud to associate with cannon Adeyemi. I thank God for him for what he did for Ondo”. Cannon Adeyemi is a typical example to be followed by right thinking person”, he remarked.
The Ondo Senior Chief expressed appreciation for the visit and advised the Vice-Chancellor to continue to do his best, as he pilots the affairs of the institution.
High Chief Odunwo Akingbule, however, solicited support from staff and students of the University for the Vice Chancellor, and enjoined every stakeholders not to relent in making valuable contributions towards the growth and advancement of institution.
Responding, the AFUED Vice-Chancellor, Prof.Bayode Isaiah Popoola, stated that the Management of the University embarked on the visit, in order to felicitate with centenarian as he celebrate his 100years birthday.
The University Administrator, paid glowing tribute to High Chief Akingbule for his numerous contributions to the University and humanity in general. He also commended the centenarian for his philanthropic gestures and contributions to educational development through annual offering of scholarship to indigent students.
The Vice-Chancellor said “We are here to felicitate with you on this special occasion. We are also here to thank you for the support given to Adeyemi and for humanity. We are grateful for scholarship you give to indigent students and pray that God will give you more years of celebration”.
The climax of the visit was the rendition of songs and presentation of birthday card, as well as, an art work containing picture of High Chief Olabanji Akingbule emblazoned on a wooden material, which was produced by the Fine Art Department in the University and presented by Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola to High Chief Olabanji Akingbule.
The brief ceremony was attended by principal officers of the University including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Alao Ireti Folashade; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Acting Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.). Adeola F. Afolabi.
Also present were Directors, Heads of Department, staff from Vice and Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s office, Directorate of Information and Public Relations as well as students from music department in the University.
