Europe-based man killed in Benin City over ₦15m worth of gold necklace

Last week Friday in Benin City Edo State, a young man named Derrick Choice aka Denco who returned from abroad not too long ago celebrated his birthday which was loud and had many friends in attendance.

On Saturday, he drove to a spare parts shop somewhere at Igun Street , a location famous for its vehicle repair workshops where the unfortunate incident took place.

Sources indicated that Derrick was assaulted after allegedly resisting a theft attempt of his lumbar gold necklace, which is reportedly worth about ₦15m.

According to an eye witness, the victim was unaware of their intention and demanded an explanation for why he should surrender the necklace.
He said that after the challenge, one of them grabbed a pump-action shotgun and shot the unsuspecting victim twice in the legs.
“The group then took the jewellery and escaped from the scene.”

He also stated that sympathizers later hurried the deceased to the hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival.

CSP Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for Edo State Police Command, confirmed the killing.

Yamu stated that the investigation is ongoing and promised that those responsible will be held accountable. Very unfortunate.
