Governor Sends Two Commissioner-Nominees to House of Assembly

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has nominated two individuals for confirmation as Commissioners by the State House of Assembly.

The nominees are Abdulkarim Maude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)-designate, and Dr. Aliyu Isa-Aliyu, an Associate Professor of Allied Mathematics.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, Maude was described as a seasoned lawyer with broad experience in office administration, courtroom proceedings, and corporate practice.

Dr. Isa-Aliyu, on the other hand, is a respected academic and researcher who currently serves as the Statistician-General and Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics.

Governor Yusuf also approved the appointment of Salisu Tahir as the new Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice. Tahir previously held the position of Director of Public Prosecution in the ministry.

The governor stressed his administration’s focus on professionalism, competence, and integrity in public service, noting that young and energetic members are being injected into his cabinet.

These developments come amid recent controversies that rocked the state government, including the resignation of the Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, over his involvement in securing bail for a suspected drug offender.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) are also probing allegations of financial mismanagement involving top state officials.
