Trump Open to Letting Ukraine Use Long-Range U.S. Weapons Against Russia

President Donald J. Trump signaled openness to easing restrictions on Ukraine’s use of American-made long-range missiles against Russia but stopped short of making a firm commitment during talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, where Zelensky pressed Washington for Tomahawk Cruise Missiles and approval to strike Russian targets directly. According to senior U.S. and Ukrainian officials who spoke with the Wall Street Journal, Trump did not oppose the idea but withheld a formal decision on changing U.S. policy. However, officials noted that his administration is weighing whether to provide Ukraine with Tomahawks and other long-range systems, with discussions ongoing inside the White House and among European allies.
