Nigerian Army Trains Warrant Officers On AI For Operational Effectiveness
The Nigerian Army says the security challenges confronting the nation highlight the need for higher standards of military leadership and management, with artificial intelligence expected to play a critical role in strengthening operations at the junior command level.
The Commandant of the Nigerian Army Depot, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, stated this at the opening of a leadership and management seminar for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers at the Warrant Officers’ Academy in Kaduna.
Over the next two weeks, senior non-commissioned officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force will undergo intensive training designed to bridge the gap between commissioned officers and enlisted personnel in their formations and units.
The course, tailored for participants of Warrant Officers’ Academy Course 46, is aimed at sharpening leadership capabilities, improving management skills, and reinforcing the role of senior non-commissioned officers, as the backbone of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, while also harnessing the application of artificial intelligence, to enhance operational decision-making.
Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, emphasised that leadership is the bedrock of the Nigerian Army.
He noted that decisions taken at all levels, whether high or low, directly impact the Army’s objectives, warning that ineffective junior leadership can undermine entire battalions, regiments, and units stressing the importance of harnessing AI to strengthen professionalism.
With the theme, “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Operational Effectiveness: Leadership Imperative for a Modern Military,” the seminar provides participants with a platform to share perspectives, exchange knowledge and draw lessons from real-life operational experiences.
