Gunmen Abduct House of Assembly Member

In a shocking development that has sent waves of concern across Plateau State, gunmen have abducted a sitting member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, representing Pankshin South Constituency.

The lawmaker, whose name has not been officially disclosed at the time of this report, was reportedly kidnapped in the late hours of Monday night from his residence in the Dong area of Jos North Local Government Area.

Sources close to the family say the assailants stormed the lawmaker’s home under the cover of darkness and forcefully took him away to an undisclosed location. It is not yet clear if contact has been made with the kidnappers or if any ransom has been demanded.

Security operatives have since been mobilized to the area, and a manhunt is underway. The Plateau State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the abduction.

This incident adds to the growing wave of insecurity that has plagued several parts of Plateau State in recent times, including recurring communal clashes, attacks on rural communities, and rising cases of kidnapping.

Residents of the Dong community have expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation, urging the government and relevant agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.

Political observers warn that the abduction of a sitting lawmaker signals a disturbing escalation in the security challenges facing the state, and may further undermine public confidence in the ability of authorities to guarantee safety.
