Governor Nwifuru Clears Air On Suspension Of 87 Officials In Ebonyi
Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru, has dismissed claims that he suspended 87 government officials for failing to attend his daughter’s birthday party.
The report had circulated on social media, alleging that the governor took action against commissioners and other political appointees who were absent from a private event held for his daughter.
However, the state government has confirmed that the reason for the suspension is entirely different.
According to the statement from the governor’s office, the officials were penalised for not showing up at a public function—the grand finale of a basic school sports competition organised by the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC).
Governor Nwifuru had assigned his deputy, Patricia Obila, to represent him at the event and had directed all senior officials to attend.
Despite this instruction, many of the appointees failed to show up at the UBEC event, prompting disciplinary action.
The governor reportedly found their absence unacceptable, especially since this was not the first time such disobedience had occurred.
The suspension, which affects 87 officials, will last for one month. During this period, those affected will not receive salaries and will not be allowed to carry out official duties.
The viral photo being shared online, which shows people gathered at a birthday party, was confirmed to be from a private event and unrelated to the suspension.
