Economic Tree Planting Sensitisation Campaign Begins in Ondo State – PESMDAA & Ministry of Environment Lead the Way

ECONOMIC TREE PLANTING SENSITISATION CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED IN ONDO STATE

In a bold step towards environmental sustainability and economic empowerment, the Petroleum, Environment and Solid Minerals Degradation Awareness Association (PESMDAA), Ondo State Chapter, in collaboration with the Ondo State Ministry of Environment, has embarked on a comprehensive Economic Tree Planting Sensitisation Campaign across the state.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the dual benefits of environmental protection and economic viability through the strategic planting of economic trees such as cashew, cocoa, palm, moringa, and others that can serve as long-term sources of income and ecological balance.

Speaking during the flag-off of the campaign, representatives of PESMDAA and officials from the Ministry of Environment emphasized the urgent need to combat environmental degradation, deforestation, and the adverse effects of climate change, especially in communities affected by extractive activities. They also noted that economic tree planting offers sustainable solutions that promote green jobs, food security, and community wealth creation.

The sensitisation outreach includes workshops, school and community visits, stakeholder engagement, and hands-on tree planting sessions to encourage active participation by residents, especially the youth and local farmers.

This joint initiative reflects Ondo State’s commitment to environmental stewardship and aligns with global efforts to restore ecosystems while fostering sustainable livelihoods.
