Newborn baby buried alive found crying

A farmer in Kebbi State, Kabiru Kamba, has been hailed as a hero after he discovered and rescued a newborn baby girl buried alive on his farmland in Kamba, located in Dandi Local Government Area of the state.

Kamba shared the remarkable story on Monday during a visit from the Kebbi State Gender-Based Violence Technical Working Group, led by former Permanent Secretary Hajiya Rafa’atu Hammani.

According to the farmer, the incident occurred last Friday when he spotted a suspicious mound of soil while working on his land. Sensing something unusual, he enlisted the help of passing motorcyclists to dig.

“We found a piece of cloth buried under the soil,” Kamba recounted.

“I immediately called the attention of nearby police officers. They dug further and, to our shock, uncovered a baby girl wrapped in fabric—alive and crying.”

Moved by compassion, Kamba offered to care for the child and has since taken full responsibility for her welfare.

“I acted out of humanity. My wife recently gave birth as well, so feeding the baby hasn’t been a problem,” he said.

He added that a naming ceremony for the rescued child would take place on Wednesday, with preparations already underway.

His wife expressed happiness about the new addition to their family, vowing to raise the child as her own.

During the visit, Hajiya Hammani praised Kamba’s swift and selfless response, pledging to inform the Kebbi First Lady, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Idris, for further support.

The Secretary of the Technical Working Group, Alhaji Nasiru Idris, also commended Kamba’s bravery and prayed for the child’s continued health and protection.

He confirmed that the police have launched a full investigation to uncover those behind the disturbing act.

To support the family, the delegation presented essential items, including baby clothing, powdered milk, diapers, soap, a mattress, a mosquito net, and a baby bed.
